This year’s declarations will be sent out at the beginning of March. Then you will find out whether you will receive the tax refund or whether an additional tax payment is due.
But anyone who is curious can already find out what the result will look like.
There is a new service on the Swedish tax authority website called “Calculate your tax”, which Aftonbladet and P4 Göteborg, among others, have previously reported on. It can be accessed here.
The first step is to enter, among other things, the year of birth, the community and possible membership in the Church of Sweden or another religious community.
– That’s the easy part. Then comes the hard part, says Martin Pernheim, tax administrator at the Swedish Tax Agency.
He refers to the second step, “filling out the tax documents”.
– There you first need to talk about how much you earned last year and how much taxes you paid. That’s the problem – because I don’t know exactly how much I earned last year.
The solution then is to log in to My Pages, where you can view your 2025 income information.
– It says that I earned, say, 600,000 and paid about 300,000 in taxes. There is also income from service, sickness or pension, and it is important to divide this part.
To calculate it For property tax, for example, interest and the assessment basis for property tax must also be entered, explains Martin Pernheim.
– And no normal person knows how much interest or property tax you paid.
Parallel to logging into “My Pages”, you should also take a look at last year’s declaration and access the information there.
– In my calculation I used the same interest rate that I paid last year, around 20,000. Then I looked at the property tax base to see if it was around 500,000. Then I filled it out. And then there was no problem calculating how much tax I would get.
The calculation can look like this: time consuming. But Martin Pernheim says he managed to calculate his tax in eight minutes during the first test of the new service. The second time it took him less than five minutes.
– If you know that you have income from a job, have not been sick and are not interested – then it happens very quickly. But many may have income from different employers and have had some sick days. Then it’s cool to log in to “My Pages” and see exactly what salary you had in the last year of income and what taxes you paid.
For those who prefer it Wait for the calculation in the income tax return, which will be sent between March 2nd and 6th for those who have a digital mailbox. Regardless of whether you have a digital mailbox or not, the declaration is available as a PDF under the “My Pages” tab on the Swedish Tax Agency website.
The dispatch of paper declarations will not begin until mid-March.
From March 17th, you can submit a declaration in the Inkomstdeclaration 1 e-service, even if you have not yet received your declaration. Anyone who would like an early payout then has around two weeks to agree to the declaration.
Facts.Important dates for the declaration
March 1st: Last day to get a digital mailbox
2nd–6th March: The digital declarations will be sent
March 17th: First day you can register
March 31st: Last day to register to receive April tax refund
7th–10th April: The tax refund begins with the payment
May 4th: Last day for declaration – any tax refunds will then be paid out from June 9th to 12th
Martin Pernheim lists a few things to keep in mind before making the declaration. The first applies to the interest deduction for unsecured loans, such as personal loans and credit cards.
– I think the big problem is that when you have to file a return this year, suddenly there are two fields for interest costs. The fact is that since last year you can only deduct half of the interest costs for unsecured loans.
And next year, starting with the tax year 2026, the interest deduction for such loans will be completely abolished – so they will be significantly more expensive.
– If you have such loans, it is probably wise to try to pay them off as quickly as possible. And that has to be said very humbly, because many who have these loans may not have the best ability in the world to repay them.
His second piece of advice is aimed at this to those who have to register for the first time, mainly young people. You would do well to get a digital mailbox by March 1st at the latest. For those who want to get money back, it is also a good idea to register a recipient account.
– If you have not reported it, we will send you a payment card. However, if you need to withdraw money using a payment card, it will cost 40-60 SEK. It’s unnecessary money, I mean: why should you pay to withdraw your own money?
