Is ex-Prince Andrew considered a “broken man” these days? I recently claimed it myself in a text in DN (20/2), referring to Reuters photographer Phil Noble’s widely circulated image of the former prince sitting in the back seat on the way from the police station.
But nothing in Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s life has trained him in the art of being like most people or prepared him for situations in which he must apologize.
The historian and author In any case, Andrew Lownie claims that he was probably more surprised and dissatisfied. Lownie’s biography of the ex-prince, Entitled: The Rise and Fall of The House of York, published last fall, has, to say the least, become relevant again.
Lownie told the Guardian: “Andrew still doesn’t understand what the problem is. He thinks he’s been treated unfairly. He’s fixated on various details, like whether he can take his horses to Norfolk, who will look after the dogs, where he’ll park. It’s a kind of dissociation.”
Lownie’s source is an unnamed reporter and it is not possible to say for sure whether the description is accurate. What is clear is that the lack of shame is one of the characteristics that many testified to in the Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor case. Perhaps a more effective summary of the spirit’s importance is “The Cunt,” as some former bodyguards called their object of protection.
Today, Andrew Lownie is still angry at everyone who refused to speak to him during his research for the book, at ambassadors and dignitaries of all kinds who are ultimately supposed to serve the state. The author claims that enough people knew about the influx of prostitutes into the prince’s chambers, about the “task” of providing him with women on trips abroad in the service of the kingdom.
Like so many When it comes to abuse of power and abuse of women in the past, it is by no means the case that there was a lack of knowledge. Chris Bryant also said in his speech: “It is clear that we have known for a long time much of what has now become public knowledge. It is of course easy for some to say, ‘If only we had known then what we know now,’ but unfortunately that is not the case. The truth is that we have had plenty of warning.”
The lack of courage in people close to power is hard to notice every time it comes to light. The willingness to cover up irregularities and abuse is both fascinating and tragic. Andrew, however unpleasant he may seem and however serious the crimes he appears to have committed, is just a small part of the whole Epstein mess, just one of probably many, many who have long been shielded from exposure.
All the more admirable are the exploited women far from the center of power who finally tell it like it is, who understand it Omertán no longer applicable.
