How do you now view the events of 2023?
– What I took away from this experience was very valuable. I learned the importance of not bowing down to someone who has a stronger voice. No matter what you do, you have the right to express yourself as long as you don’t hurt anyone. I am lucky to have my voice and people who amplify it.
How did the “Rening” exhibition come about?
– I was thinking about the phrases that the Islamic regime uses to brainwash people. Since I was a child, I remember all these phrases aimed at controlling morality, mostly centered around women and the oppression of female bodies.
Can you tell us something about the background of the performance of the same name?
– My intention to do something that contradicts what the Islamic regime in Iran is doing. The violence and brutality continues even after death. The performance takes the form of a ceremony to say goodbye to people, in which I try to wash blood stains from white fabrics while standing in the middle of the gallery. As I do this, letters and voices from Iran are playing in Swedish at the same time.
The exhibition will be on display from February 7th to March 15th at Werdenstams in Borås. The performance will take place on Friday, February 6th at 3 p.m. at Stora Torget in Borås and on February 7th at Werdenstams.
