I’m often annoyed that people in this country are spoiled.
The average Swede now has more free time and greater resources than previous generations. Nevertheless, there is a lot of complaining. However, rarely from those who work double-time and low-wage jobs or who find themselves with low pay for a long period of time in the event of illness. Those who complain about the mystery of life are often doing well.
There seems to be a misunderstanding about what is important in life: exercising, getting your nails painted, or going to the gym are not among them. However, as you know, we need food every day.
Knowledge of food and cooking is more accessible than ever before. Likewise, most people have access to a well-equipped kitchen. Still, it seems acceptable to put in a little extra work to be able to eat something well-cooked. Because some dishes require a bit of effort. If, like many DN readers, you enjoy the deep flavors of slow cooking and other slow-cooked home cooking, then you can take your time. Nevertheless, tips on shortcuts and quick versions are at the top when the newspaper measures which of the food reports are read most often. They want solid food, but without effort. Comfortable and well stowed away is my first – slightly worried – conclusion.

That’s why I’ve come up with – at least – some dishes in which long-cooked, deep flavors can be achieved in a shorter time.
One way is to use ingredients which in themselves have deep flavors. I often add smoked pork, cured ham, or sausage to sauces and stews to quickly add character and rich dimensions. Another trick is to cut the ingredients into smaller pieces to shorten the cooking time.
So feel free to try out the methods if time is short. But for the tyrants: Cook some real slow cookers every now and then!
