Risberg after 35 kilometers
Swedish skier Oskar Kardin had to change skis before the lead fell to Risberg. He signaled during the race that he had problems with his left ski and got a new one after almost 35 kilometers.
– In order for you to change the ski, there must be something wrong with the ski. It also applies that you must not seek unauthorized help from anyone else when putting on the binding or similar. You have to do it yourself, says SVT expert Anders Blomquist on the show.
It was Alvar Myhlback’s father Petter Myhlback, the leader of the Lager 157 Ski Team, who ran along the route and delivered a new ski. The new ski is from a different brand than Kardin’s regular one. Now he skis with a red left ski and a yellow right ski.
When the lead came to Risberg, the breakout was captured and the men’s lead consisted of a single large group. In the women’s race, Norwegian Emilie Fleten led, but Sweden’s Hanna Lodin was part of the quartet that led the women’s race.
Stina Nilsson continues to lose track of time. She passed Risberg for sixth place, 2 minutes and 39 seconds ahead of Fleten.
The stands after 24 kilometers
A group of eleven men’s skaters had created a gap between themselves and the others at the front. The Swede Oskar Kardin, for example, belonged to this group. He survived the interim in Mångsbodarna after just over an hour and 15 minutes of driving.
About 45 seconds behind the lead was a larger group that included Alvar Myhlback.
Damtäten passed Mångsbodarna after just over 1 hour and 16 minutes. The only Swedish skater who was part of the top quintet there was Hanna Lodin. Last year’s winner Stina Nilsson came to Mångsbodarna as seventh rider, 1 minute and 26 seconds ahead.
Smagan after 11 kilometers
Last year the conditions were fast and then it took about 28 minutes for the little guy to get there. This year, with fresh snow on the routes, the fastest driver needed 37 minutes to cover the first 11 kilometers.
Alvar Myhlback was about 20 seconds ahead of Gabriel Strid, who was first at the time.
The first female rider to Smågan was Julie Støstad. She got there in just over 38 minutes. Last year’s winner Stina Nilsson had a lead of 34 seconds over the women’s lead at the first control.
The start is in the village of Berga
When the clock struck eight, the Vasalop race began in the village of Berga. In the run-up to the race it was said that there would be fast conditions on the route between Sälen and Mora. But several centimeters of snow fell on Sunday night.
– It’s going to be a hard day. We are absolutely sure of that. “Everyone who comes to Mora today is a hero,” Vasaloppets sports director Tommy Höglund told SVT.
In the morning, the officials were out renewing the slopes with snow groomers. It’s an unusual solution. Normally the courses are prepared the evening before the race.
