I’m feeling pretty good after the dramatic crash
Last Friday evening, Polish short track skater Kamila Sellier had her face ripped open just below her left eye by a skater. This was in connection with a bad fall in one of the quarter-final races over 1,500 meters.
However, the 25-year-old announced on social media that she was in relatively good condition.
“I know one day I’ll look at this picture and be reminded that I’m stronger than I ever thought. Thank you for all the kind and supportive words. I just wanted to let you know that I’m doing pretty well,” Sellier wrote on Instagram.
In the accident, the back of a participant’s skate rail threw Sellier’s goggles off with full force, which, in addition to the laceration, also caused a slight fracture to his cheekbone.
The Polish woman left the ice rink of the Milan Ice Skating Arena on a stretcher and was immediately taken to hospital, where she later underwent surgery.
Mother won Olympic gold in Milan – now it’s the sons’ turn
When the USA women’s ice hockey team secured the gold medal, two proud NHL players celebrated in the stands of the Santagiulia Arena in Milan. Brothers Jack and Quinn Hughes had every reason to celebrate a little more. Her mother, Ellen Hughes, was found at the USA stand. The former player has been part of the national team management for two years and is tasked with developing the players individually.
Jack and Quinn Hughes talked about how nerve-wracking it was to watch the tight, close game that saw the USA only secure gold in overtime, but they also talked about how much inspiration it gave them for what awaits them on Sunday afternoon.
Even though mother Ellen was the family’s first Olympic gold medalist, two more can join the family’s gold club on the last day of the Olympics.
Jack and Quinn Huges aren’t just in Milan to support mom. On Sunday afternoon they play the Olympic final when rivals USA and Canada meet, and then it’s mother Ellen’s turn to nervously watch the game from the stands.
Passing on to the next generation

For 35-year-old freestyle skater Qi Guangpu of China, the Milan Olympics marked his fifth consecutive appearance since his Olympic debut in 2010. That alone is impressive. At the 2022 home Olympics, he also won both Olympic singles gold and Olympic silver in mixed doubles.
He has to go home from his last Olympic Games without a medal, but he does so with a feeling of pride and satisfaction.
– Now, as I said, it’s time to say goodbye. Now what I’ve been waiting for has happened. “I see that there are now young, talented Chinese skaters who are ready to take over,” Qi Guangpu told the Olympics’ official news channel.
He thinks, among others, of Wang Xindi, who won individual Olympic gold and who in turn thanked Qi Guangpu for his support and inspiration.
Flag bearer at graduation

Graduations are never as pompous as inaugurations, but for many it is a great honor to be chosen to carry the flag at the graduation ceremony.
Among the flag bearers presented before the closing ceremony in Verona was ice hockey player Hilary Knight, who was competing in her fifth and final Olympics in Milan. She ended her career by winning Olympic gold.
She will carry the USA flag alongside figure skater Evan Bates.
The flag of the host country Italy will be carried by biathlete Lisa Vittozzi together with ice skater Davide Ghiotto.
Several countries are opting out of taking part in the final, and the scattered Olympic Games mean that many consider the route via Verona before the journey home to be somewhat unnecessary. Among the countries that will not have a flag bearer is Sweden.
