It was a hell of a life to say the least when the first promotional images from the TV series Love Story were released in June last year.

The many fashion experts on the Internet were fuming.

Were Sarah Pidgeon and Paul Anthony Kelly the wrong actors to play John Kennedy Jr. and his stylish wife Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy?

Not at all. The anger was because the clothes were hanging incorrectly on the walls.

Would this woman who to this day, 26 years after her dramatic death in a plane crash with her husband, is still celebrated for her super-sleek minimalist style, wearing skimpy clothes and cheap bags that looked like they were picked from Mango and Zara? No, she wouldn’t.

And the hair. It even stunned her hair colorist, who fumed in the New York Post that TV producers got the shade of her blonde locks completely wrong. In fact, Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s long hair wasn’t that freshly bleached in real life.

The critics were not wrong. Even moderate fashionistas reacted to the eye-catchers Fashion faux pas as well-known TV producer Ryan Murphy had done. He then addressed the press and explained that the images were merely test images taken to check whether the light and colors worked.

Nobody bought this lie. The fashion police continued their mission: repeat, do right!

    And fuck me. It worked.

A new costume designer came on board, Rudy Mance. A man who previously worked on Ryan Murphy’s Feud. Capote vs. The Swans, a series about Truman Capote’s equally well-dressed and wealthy girlfriends in New York society.

He consulted specialists and carefully compared each item of clothing and bags with photos of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy to make the details as accurate as possible. He has a lot to do. In the role of this style guru, Sarah Pidgeon changes clothes 12 to 15 times each episode.

Today’s huge interest in her and the pared-back ’90s style she represented didn’t make it easy to find exactly the right clothes and bags. For example, he was able to find the model Spazzolato’s black Prada bag, which she wore when she returned from her honeymoon in 1996, through a seller on Etsy – in Ukraine.

“It’s very interesting that people are so provoked,” Ryan Murphy commented on the uproar over her TV wardrobe in an interview with entertainment magazine Variety. He compared her to a religious figure with a loyal following.

Many of them had not yet been born when the love story between the president’s handsome son John Kennedy Jr. and this beautiful, then completely unknown blonde who worked in PR at Calvin Klein took place. A couple who formed an irresistible mix of uptown and downtown New York, with the paparazzi working at full speed around the clock.

They had no bodyguards and no bouncer at the Tribeca house, which contributed to the fact that there are a large number of photos of them and not least of Carloyn Bessette-Kennedy.

But despite being one of the most photographed and hunted women of her time, or perhaps because of that, she never gave a single interview. And there are only two filmed elements of different events in which she is seen and heard speaking. In total it is 11 seconds. That’s all.

Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s mysterious nature has, of course, helped to perpetuate the mystery that surrounds her.

But while there are certainly many who, like the creators of the TV series “Love Story,” are interested in delving into her whirlwind love life, there are obviously even more who are obsessed with her style and clothes.

By the way, about Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy

    ● The TV series “Love Story” (Disney+) premiered last week. It is based on the biography “Once Upon a Time. The Captivating Life of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy” by Elizabeth Beller (from 2024).

    ● Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s style is characterized by a monochrome color scheme of black, white, beige and navy blue. No patterns, lace or ruffles. Few but well-selected accessories. A forerunner of what is called today quiet luxury.

    ● Perhaps the most famous is her minimalist rope-cut wedding dress designed by her good friend Narciso Rodriguez. He has her initials “CBK” tattooed on his left forearm.
