Frida Karlsson won the premiere in the big skiathlon. When it came time for the 10 kilometer freestyle, silver medalist Ebba Andersson’s lead was just over 46 seconds. During the race, Andersson realized that she was not fighting for gold, but for the other nominals.
National team manager Anders Byström:
– She is so superior that it would hardly be possible to gain that much in 10 kilometers. The others are extras. It’s crazy the form she’s found and how good she seems to be right now.
Partly that’s what it’s about Physiology, he says. That Frida Karlsson has been a good skier for a long time, but when she is no longer plagued by injuries, she gets the opportunity to use everything her body has. Partly it’s about the position she occupies in life, which she believes is an important factor.
– When I arrived here on the Monday before the first competition, you could immediately see how she was just beaming. It was like an aura around her because she was happy and positive in every way.
Next up is the women’s relay on Saturday, and although the national team management usually doesn’t want to reveal any names in advance, Byström smiles and mentions a name: Frida is ready, I can say that.
– At the moment it doesn’t feel like anyone can defeat them. But at the same time, all races live their own lives and that’s why you have to worry about the next race… but it will be hard to beat them.
