Sweden missed out on a medal in the men’s mixed relay and distance race.
When it came time to decide on the women’s distance, Sweden took third, fifth and sixth place in the overall World Cup. But Anna Magnusson (two misses), Hanna Öberg (three misses) and Elvira Öberg (two misses) failed to stick together at the shooting range.
Anna Magnusson, the big surprise of the season, had only missed one shot until the last shot. However, there was another missed shot and therefore an extra minute, which dashed any hopes of a really good placing.
Hanna Öberg, who won both Olympic and World Championship gold in this discipline, slipped far down the list. Likewise sister Elvira Öberg – who, however, stuck together in her last two series.
Instead the best was Swedish somewhat surprisingly, Linn Gestblom (formerly Persson), who competed in his first championship race since 2024 after injury problems.
The multiple Olympic champion and World Cup medalist, who was the only Swede to shoot fully in the first shooting, failed at the finish due to two errors and a ninth place.
Anna Magnusson took 12th place, just ahead of Elvira Öberg, who took 13th place.
Hanna Öberg was just over four minutes behind the winner Julia Simon at the finish. This resulted in a 41st place for older sister Öberg.
– It was hard. “I feel like I have no pressure at all while driving and I have no answer as to why it’s not right here and now,” Hanna Öberg told TV4 after the race.
Öberg says that the form is good and that she can’t blame the skis. She missed two shots on her first shot, which led to a difficult situation. She believes horseback riding influenced her shooting.
– It was a bad series. That’s what I’m trying to work on: that I shouldn’t let the feeling of driving influence me too much on the ramp, but already in the first lap I feel that I’m not quite where I want to be, and then it becomes more difficult to find the right focus on the ramp, says Hanna Öberg to TV4.
Julia Simon from France won gold. She missed a shot and beat her compatriot Lou Jeanmonnot, who won the silver medal, by 53 seconds.
Simon missed one shot and Jeanmonnot missed two. Despite one or two minutes of extra time, the French women won against third-placed Lora Hristova from Bulgaria, who was one of those who hit all the shots.
