For the ski elite who ski under the Fischer brand, yellow skis have been the norm for several years.
There are exceptions. Frida Karlsson can’t let go of her favorite, the black pair of classic skis. These were the skis she wore in the first half of the gold race at the Olympics.
At the international press conference she described the skis.
– It’s my golden couple. I think I’ve had these skis for ten years. I got them before I was well again. It’s really strange, but when there’s a championship they always want to be there. It felt a bit iconic when I came to the (ski) test and they were there.
How can an old pair of skis perform better than a new pair?
Jonas Lindqvist is involved in the management of the ski shop Bruksvallarnas Sportcenter. He explains that every Frida Karlsson ski is unique.
– The skis are machine made, but since Fischer uses wood in his skis, they will not be identical. Here it has to be a pair of skis with a span that fits Frida perfectly, says Jonas Lindqvist.
IN Target area Val di Fiemme Frida Karlsson’s trainer Per Nilsson stood there after the race and was pleased to see that the old skis still worked.
Nilsson had been following Karlsson for many years, but what he saw on the Italian Olympic tracks surprised even him.
– Yes, how the race ended at the end. It was a brutal course and given the leadership he had, the execution was sick, damn good.

Nilsson, who is also captain of the German national team, was standing on the track and as Frida increased the pace, a thought he had before occurred to him:
– With Frida, you always want her to hold back a little more than she thinks. But it looked controlled.
